Topic 1: Total Value of Exports From 2000 to 2005

The bar chart below shows the results of a survey conducted by a personnel department at a major company. The survey was carried out on two groups of workers: those aged from 18-30 and those aged 45-60, and shows factors affecting their work performance. Write a report for a university.

You should spend about 20 minutes on this task. The charts below show the percentage of their food budget the average family spent on restaurant meals in different years. The graph shows the number of meals eaten in fast food restaurants and sit-down restaurants. You should write at least 150.

 

TOPICS FOR IELTS WRITING – TASK 2

In this part of the writing test, you will be asked to write a well-organized essay on one of the following topics. For each essay, you should spend about 40 minutes and you should write at least 250 words. Remember to give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Topic 1

Some people think that parents should teach children how to be good members of society. Others, however, believe that school is the place to learn this.

Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

Topic 2

Nowadays the way many people interact with each other has changed because of technology. In what ways has technology affected the types of relationships people make? Has this become a positive or negative development?

Topic 3

Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve growing traffic and pollution problems.

To what extent do you agree or disagree? What other measures do you think might be effective?

Topic 4

In some countries, the average weight of people is increasing and their levels of health and fitness are decreasing.

What do you think are the causes of these problems and what measures could be taken to solve them?

Topic 5

Nowadays, many students have the opportunity to study for part or all of their courses in foreign countries. While studying abroad brings many benefits to individual students, it also has a number of disadvantages.

It is often difficult for young people to find a good job without previous work experience. Governments should encourage employers to choose young people when they need new workers.

Computers and modems have made it possible for office workers to do much of their work from home instead of working in offices every day. Working from home should be encouraged as it is good for workers and employers.

Young people are much more aware of and concerned about issues like the environment, poverty, and animal welfare than previous generations.

Individuals can do nothing to change society. Any new developments can only be brought about by governments and large institutions.

Some businesses now say that no one can smoke cigarettes in any of their offices. Some governments have banned smoking in all public places. This is a good idea but it also takes away some of our freedom.

It is wrong for the government to spend large amounts of money on artistic projects like paintings and sculptures for public places. They are not so important. It would be better for the government to spend the money on other things.

Topic 13

Many people are using credit cards or loans to run up huge personal debts that they may be unable to repay. It should therefore be made more difficult for individuals to borrow large mounts of money.

Students should pay the full cost of their own university studies, rather than have free higher education provided by the state.

TOPIC FOR WRITING FROM BASIC TO LEVEL A

In this level, you are required to write a well-organized PARAGRAPH on one of the following topics. Be certain that you paragraph has a good topic sentence with enough supporting ideas. Also remember that your paragraph will be assessed basing on the following criteria:

 

  1. Content (ideas presented in the paragraph).
  2. Structure/ Organization of the paragraph (the topic sentence and supporting ideas)
  3. Coherence and cohesion (links of ideas, the use of transitional signals to connect ideas)
  4. Grammar (the accuracy in using grammar and the range of your sentence structures)
  5. Vocabulary (the accuracy in using words to express your ideas and your range of vocabulary)

  5. Advantages and disadvantages of working as a tour guide.

Type 3- Argumentative

  1. “Public transportation is the best solution for traffic problems in many big cities.” Give you opinion.
  2. “The Internet brings people both benefits and problems.” Do you agree?
  3. “Outdoor activities are better for children than indoor ones.” Do you agree?
  4. “Family is the most important thing in everyone’s life.” Do you agree?
  5. “It is better to be the only child in a family than to have siblings (brothers and sisters).” Do you agree?
